Biology Unit 5 - Coordination and control
In earlier units students will have looked at how organs in the body work together to perform certain functions essential to life. They will already know about metabolism and how chemicals in our food our broken down by the digestive system to produce useful products for our cells. Students will look at how the body manages these materials and the control systems that regulate the levels of chemicals in our bodies.
This unit also covers how processes and organ systems are coordinated and controlled by the nervous and the endocrine system. Finally students will look at how modern science can help us to control and manage human reproduction by using different methods of contraception, and conversely by using fertility drugs and methods such as in-vitro fertilisation to assist infertile people.
