Chemistry Unit 3 - Chemical quantities
In this unit, students learn about how mass is conserved in chemical reactions and how we can measure amounts of substances. This is looked at in more detail and students will learn about calculating relative formula masses and the mole.
They will compare methods to measure the rate of chemical reactions and link this to the work they studied in earlier units. Students will already be familiar with using apparatus like a balance, stopwatches and measuring cylinders, at KS4 we start to introduce new apparatus such as gas syringes.
Students will learn how to carry out investigations into the rate of chemical reactions, improving thier reliability, accuracy and the precision of measurement. They will also develop their mathematical skills by estmating the uncertainty in measurements.
