BIOLOGY UNIT 1 - CELL BIOLOGY
In this unit, students learn about the structure of plant, animal, prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, and the functions of major structures.
They will compare the level of detail revealed by different types of microscopes and also use mathematical skills to work out magnification.
Students will learn how for an organism to grow, cells must divide and they will look at applications of this in cloning techniques and debating the ethical and moral considerations of these new scientific techniques.
This unit offers a number of opportunities for the students to , plan and carry out investigations, for example into the use of anaerobic respiration in baking and evaluate the effectiveness of disinfectants by preparing bacterial cultures.
