Physics Unit 1 - Energy
In this unit, students learn about the connection between energy transfer and power. Students will look at how real world applications of science can help us to improve the environment, for example how the thermal conductivity of walls can be changed by adding insulation, reducing our energy bills and helping to conserve precious fossil fuels. Students will consider how our energy needs are evolving and how by understanding the environmental impact of our choices we can plan for a sustainable future.
Students will look at how energy can be transferred usefully stored or dissipated in closed systems, learning how to calculate the specific heat capacity of a material and how we can represent these transfers using Sankey diagrams.
