Physics Unit 3 - The particle model of matter
At KS3 students will have been introduced to the idea of energy stores and transfers, and how this can alter the temperature of substance. In this unit this idea will be developed and students will investigate the factors affecting the temperature change of a substance.
Students will be familiar with the particle model and changes of state. Students will have the opportunity to investigate how much energy is required to melt or vapourise a given mass. Their mathematical skills are developed and students will learn to draw graphs to determine the melting and boiling points of pure substances.
Gases are also investigated, students may have looked at how atmospheric pressure changes with height at KS3, here they will look at how temperature and volume affect pressure.
