Biology Unit 6 - Genetics
The work of Crick, Watson, Franklin and Wilkins has taught us that genetic information is contained within genes on our chromosomes and these are found in the nucleus of our cells. This is covered by students early in in year 9.
In this units students will learn how our cells reproduce themselves to facilitate growth and repair and discover how genes are combined during meiosis to produce unique offspring.
Students will consider the transmission of information in our DNA and how genetic diseases are transferred to offspring, working out the probabilities of generic traits being expressed.
